The two main aspects, this concept is based upon, derive from the name of our organization.

"Internationality" and "Montessori Pedagogy"

Multilingual and multicultural experiences are not only fundamental requirements for a successful life in globalization, but they are the basis for a tolerant and peaceful coexistence of different cultures. International education at the Barbara House is realized by linguistic aspects on the one hand, and by cultural aspects on the other hand. From the start, all children experience a bilingual education (English / German) within their groups. In addition to Christian culture, we want to bring the children closer to various cultural backgrounds, which are presented by parents, staff or friends. Cultural education is also part of the Montessori curriculum and can be found in various areas of the prepared environment.

One of the main goals of Montessori education is to allow the child to become an independent and self-confident human being. During the time at the Barbara House the children’s cognitive, physical and social abilities are equally developed. The prepared environments in the classrooms offer a variety of materials, based on the natural curiosity of children. The free choice between individual and group work, the age mixture as well as the encouragement of the children´s own responsibility , support the development of a considerate and appreciative way of interaction with each other. In the implementation of the concept we follow the guidelines and the established standards of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). This organization, with its headquarters in Amsterdam was founded by Maria Montessori and preserves and propagates the pedagogy developed by her.
